One of the few surviving lecture series in the nation that is still offered at no charge to the public, the Springfield Public Forum brings an incredible array of nationally-known experts and commentators to our community. Each fall, they host a variety of experts in a range of fields. Among them are: journalists, political commentators, authors, historians, scientists, environmentalists, health experts and economists. Their presence in our community provides unique opportunities for discussion, debate and education on a variety of issues crucial to our times. This Fall '08 marks the 73rd anniversary of this venerable organization.
Prematurity is the leading cause of infant mortality in Massachusetts and increases a child’s risk of developing health problems including cerebral palsy, mental retardation, learning disabilities, asthma, blindness and hearing loss. The March of Dimes is dedicated to funding research which investigates the causes of prematurity, infant mortality, and birth defects. Programs focus on education about the signs of preterm labor and research into the causes.
The Mission of Springfield School Volunteers is to promote and facilitate learning-focused community involvement in support of the Springfield Public Schools' goal of ensuring that every child attain a high level of academic achievement in a safe and supportive environment.
